Caernarfon man who attacked his brother jailed

A man who used a converted imitation handgun to assault his brother has been jailed.

Jamie Williams, of Chapel Street, Caernarfon, attacked his brother and threatened others on April 18.

The 24-year-old appeared for sentence at Mold Crown Court on 15 June having previously admitted to assault causing physical harm, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a certificate, converting an imitation firearm into a useable firearm and possession of cannabis.

Williams punched his brother to the face several times in an unprovoked attack before using an imitation firearm to hit the victim to the head with the handle.

Despite his brother falling unconscious, Williams continued the assault by punching him and stamping on his head causing serious injuries.

He then used the imitation firearm, which had been modified to fire bullets, to threaten others who were present and tried to assist Williams’ brother. 

He was jailed for five years and seven months.

A forfeiture order was made for the destruction of the gun, ammunition and cannabis.

Detective Inspector Chris Burrow said: “Williams carried out a violent attack on his own brother, which could have easily resulted in a fatality.

“This will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the victim and those who witnessed this terrifying assault.

“Incidents of this nature are extremely rare in North Wales, and I would reassure residents that carrying weapons will not be tolerated and we will robustly pursue any intelligence reported to us.

“Anybody with information about those who carry weapons, or imitation weapons in public, is urged to contact police or anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
