“I’m PC Nicola Jones based at Llangefni Police Station. I’ve been a Police Officer for four years having joined in 2020. Before that I’d been a PCSO for three years.
I think response is one of the best and most exciting roles in policing. As a response officer you don’t know what your day will look like. The unpredictability creates a sense of excitement, not knowing what you will be called to next is part of the challenge!
Working on my rota in Anglesey for the past three years has definitely been the highlight of my career so far. The team I work with are like family and they make coming into work even on the bad days bearable. I don’t think there is a shift that goes by where we don’t laugh. They’ve been there through the highs and lows of my policing career so far and I know they will be there for many more to come.
The thing I enjoy most about response policing is the sense of being part of a team and knowing they will be there to support you through thick and thin. We all start off our policing careers at the same place and it’s where you gain invaluable skills to hopefully take you onto the next role. It absolutely is the backbone of policing.
The most challenging thing for me about the role is dealing with some of the things we attend. All the training in the world can’t prepare you for what you might encounter from time to time and at the beginning you may find it hard to leave work at the doorstep. But you find your own coping mechanisms and the team around you help you through it all.”
