Officers have been working with Anglesey Trading Standards service to revisit homes in ‘no cold calling’ zones in an aim to tackle and prevent distraction burglaries and rogue traders across Anglesey.
No calling areas can be easily identified by stickers placed on lampposts in the area as well as window stickers being displayed in homes. Officers will be giving window stickers out along with letters containing advice for residents.
PCSO Iona Beckmann said: “Doorstep crime can have a huge impact on victims which is why we are visiting areas which we know cold callers have been targeting.
“We are doing this to educate residents about the dangers of rogue traders.
“If someone is knocking on your door asking for work, we advise declining and not allowing them into your home.
“We continue to work closely with Trading Standards to protect residents, who can sometimes be elderly and vulnerable, and to prevent further incidents from happening.”
Rogue trading refers to the practice of deliberately overcharging for unsatisfactory goods and services. This can include charging for unnecessary work or leaving work unfinished before using intimidating behaviour to extort more money out of homeowners.
If you receive any uninvited traders after putting the sticker up on your window or door, please contact Trading Standards with the traders details at [email protected] or on 01248 752840.
