We are now offering exciting re-joiner opportunities to individuals who have resigned or retired from a home office force to apply as a Re-joiner Police Officer.
All Re-joiner candidates will be treated as new applicants and will have a bespoke training programme. Candidates may be eligible to re-join at their previous rank if the force has vacancies at that rank.
As a re-joining police officer your job will be to reduce crime and the fear of crime, and promote confidence among local people that the police understand and are prepared to deal with issues that matter most to them.
Our Officers are the face and voice of North Wales Police. They’re on the ground, working in partnership with the public and organisations in making a difference to the local community. They come from different walks of life, but are united by the same goal – to keep communities safe.
Coupled with the fact that you would be joining a dynamic, forward thinking organisation, you will have the opportunity to work in areas of outstanding natural beauty. With a mix of rural and urban communities you will experience a wide range of different challenges on a daily basis.
North Wales is one of the safest places to live in the United Kingdom. Serving a population of 698,400 people and covering an area of 6,300 square kilometres.
House prices in the most beautiful towns and villages are widely affordable and the average price of a property in Wales is around £215,000.
The area has strong life-long learning opportunities including Bangor University, Wrexham Glyndwr University, Menai College and Llandrillo College. As well as higher education and further learning there are numerous excellent public primary and secondary schools within the region.
To apply as a Re-joiner you must:
Specific vacancy information can be found on our Vacancy Portal.
North Wales Police are currently looking to recruit the following:
We need to be sure we recruit people of the highest quality, so our recruitment process involves several steps.
Even if you achieve them all, be aware that it does not automatically guarantee a position with us. We need to balance the operational needs of the Force with the number of vacancies.
Individuals are required to complete an online application form consisting of personal information, eligibility checks and competency based questions.
This is the first part of the selection process.
Once you have submitted your application form we will review the information and your CVF Evidence.
If you pass the Initial Suitability Check and the force has a need to recruit to your particular skill set, knowledge and experience, you will be progressed through to the Interview stage of the process.
You will be invited to attend a competency and values based initial interview assessed against the Competency Values Framework and at a level appropriate to your rank.
The interview will last up to 45 minutes and will be based on the Competency and Values Framework [PDF] and your research into North Wales Police.
We are flexible in terms of language used in the interview. You will need to let us know whether you want to speak in English or Welsh, or a combination of both if that is easier for you. The interview is not a test of your Welsh skills.
If you pass the Interview process, you will be progressed through to the Conditional Offer stage of the process.
The following sections outline the pre-employment checks that will be undertaken as part of the recruitment process.
Those successful at pre-employment checks will be issued a formal offer and progressed to an intake date.
Force vacancies will be outlined in the advert. Please note that whilst preferences, specialisms and training will be considered when identifying postings, we must also meet operational demand and so are unable to guarantee individual preferences.
Here at North Wales Police we actively encourage all our staff and officers to use Welsh in their daily lives at work.
Therefore, we ask all new police officers to demonstrate basic skills in the Welsh language (level 2 ).
The review will take place in an informal manner with a sympathetic Welsh speaker. We offer support and guidance to help you achieve the required level for the role.
We also have online learning resources that may assist you with your learning. Please note it is a spoken review - there is no written test.
If you are a fluent Welsh language speaker or went to an all Welsh speaking school then you won’t need to complete the review. This will be verified during the process.
You will be sent an email from our vetting system to complete the vetting forms as part of your checks. Please ensure you complete this information promptly to ensure no delays in the process.
We will contact your current employer and Previous Force to obtain an employment reference. We will not contact them without your permission.
You will be invited in for your fingerprint and for a DNA sample. You will also be asked to come to Police Headquarters during the pre-employment stage to undertake a drugs test.
You will be invited in for a fitness test to ensure you are fit enough to cope with the demands of the job.
Learn more about what the test involves [PDF].
Whilst you are in Police Headquarters you will meet with our Force Trainers to review your TNA and also undertake a Law assessment.
This is to ensure your initial training package is suitable and supports your re-introduction into policing.
You will have been given a medical history questionnaire and an optician’s form. These must be completed by your doctor and optician – please note that they may charge you for doing this, and it can take up to four weeks to return the forms to you.
Once the recruitment stage is complete and checks have been cleared, we will process you to start on the relevant intake date.
Your first few weeks will be in Training to complete the bespoke Re-joiner Training Programme followed by an attachment to PDU (if applicable).
A suitable Rank/role Work Based Assessment will also be completed.
