Thousands Attend Successful North Wales Police Open Day

North Wales Police has hailed this year’s Open Day a huge success after welcoming thousands of visitors from across the region for a day of community engagement, education and family-friendly activities.

Held at Police Headquarters, Colwyn Bay on Saturday 23rd May, the event brought together officers, staff, volunteers, other blue light services and partner agencies to showcase the wide-ranging work carried out by the force every day to keep communities safe.

Visitors enjoyed a packed programme of attractions and demonstrations, including police dog displays, a joint Fire and Ambulance display, vehicle exhibitions, interactive activities for children, a visit by the police helicopter and much more. The event also highlighted career opportunities within policing and allowed attendees to gain a greater understanding of modern policing across North Wales.

The Open Day created a positive and welcoming environment for families and residents to engage directly with officers and staff, strengthening relationships between the force and the communities it serves.

Alongside the many displays and stands there were seminars covering Olivia’s Story – which shares the story of 17-year-old Olivia Alkir, who tragically lost her life in a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Ruthin in June 2019. There was also a seminar designed especially for motorcyclists looking at safer riding techniques and highlighting BikeSafe workshops.

Stands offering road safety advice linked to agricultural vehicles, a HGV and trailer safety were included on the main car park as well as stands from our partners including MônSAR (Môn Search and Rescue), the Coastguard, RNLI and Mental Health Motorbikes.

Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman KPM said: “We are absolutely delighted with the success of this year’s Open Day. It was fantastic to see so many people attend and engage with officers, staff and our partner organisations.

“Events like this are incredibly important in helping us build trust, strengthen relationships, and give people a better understanding of the work we do every day across North Wales.”

The force has also thanked everyone who attended, along with the volunteers, emergency service partners, exhibitors and staff whose efforts helped make the day possible.
