Rhyl has seen an estimated 40% reduction in reported crime over the festive period.
Clear Hold Build, known as Project Renew, which is an initiative that has been running in Rhyl since summer 2024, has seen officers focusing on tackling violent crime and alcohol related disorder in key locations across the district.
Most recently, they have noted a significant decrease in recorded crimes during the festive Friday and New Year’s Eve periods, usually some of the busiest nights of the year for nighttime economy in the area.
Local officers policed the nighttime economy and were supported by St. John's Ambulance teams and taxi SIA marshals funded by the Area Planning Board.
District Inspector Kevin Smith said: “We achieved around a 40% reduction in crime on the key festive dates in comparison to last year.
“This is something the team have been working hard to achieve over the last six months and we are proud to achieve a safer place for people to live, work and visit.
“The Project Renew officers supported the Neighbourhood Policing Team to provide a robust approach to alcohol-related disorder in the towns and worked closely with local businesses to ensure a safer environment.
“Officers were not only present in Rhyl, but flooded towns from Abergele to Prestatyn, ensuring a visible presence right across the district to reassure those out enjoying the festivities.
“All in all, the festive period was a success, and I look forward to continuing our work with key partners across Rhyl as we move into 2025.”
