Meet Wrexham Rural’s new Inspector, Stefan Lederle.
Inspector Lederle, who has served with North Wales Police for 22 years, stepped into the role in January 2025.
On his plans for the district which covers all communities in the county outside of the city centre, he said his key focus, with the support of Sergeant Aled Hughes, is visibility and engagement with communities, focussing on crime prevention and reduction and targeted proactive activity.
During his first month in the job, he has already partnered with Wrexham City to continue to crack down on increasing numbers of anti-social behaviour in areas of Rhos, Ponciau and Johnstown.
He said: “The focus on my first month in the job has been on the team’s increased visibility and engagement following increases in anti-social behaviour (ASB), with the launch of Operation Lampoon.
“I’ll also be working with partners to problem solve and identify longer term solutions to ASB, including putting in place interventions with the families and trying to support them.”
The 47-year-old, born in Southeast London, is formerly a patrol inspector and has worked in a number of areas across the eastern side of the force.
He joined in 2003, a year after moving to Wrexham, and began his career as a response officer in Deeside. During a 10-year period in Flintshire North, he was part of the Neighbourhood Policing Team, taking on responsibility for the Deeside Industrial Park area.
He then went to Wrexham city as a Sergeant, before moving to police the rural district of Wrexham.
Having also spent some time as a custody Sergeant, he moved over to the Optimisation Improvement Programme (OIP) where he took on a temporary Inspector’s role, forming part of a team which led a two-year improvement plan to restructure the force custody suites.
During the pandemic, he worked across Flintshire South as a Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergent, before he became a Patrol Inspector in 2021, where he remained for the last three and a half years.
Inspector Lederle added: "As the Inspector for Wrexham Rural, I am committed to ensuring our community feels safe and supported.
“Wrexham Rural is a diverse area, encompassing urban and rural communities, and I believe our officers' happiness, productivity, and passion are key to excelling in what can be a challenging role.
“Our Neighbourhood Policing Team is actively engaging with community members and councillors to address concerns and work together to create a safer environment.
“Additionally, our involvement in Operation Protect has led to significant progress in our response to domestic abuse, achieving positive outcomes through a zero-tolerance approach.
“We are also committed to effectively tackling serious organised crime and targeting those who exploit vulnerable adults and children within our communities. Our officers will always strive to do the right thing for victims and achieve the best possible outcomes."
