Man who harassed sibling with threatening and abusive messages jailed

A 26-year-old man who harassed his estranged sibling after bombarding her with daily threatening and abusive messages has been jailed.

Ethan Higton, of Moelwyn Avenue North, Kinmel Bay, would send up to 100 messages a day to the victim, some making threats to kill her, her young child and her grandparent.

He also boasted about possessing weapons he threatened to use against her.

Appearing at Mold Crown Court today (Tuesday, February 11th), Higton was jailed for two years and eight months for harassment with fear of violence. He also received a one-year concurrent sentence for sending communication threatening death or serious harm.

He was also handed 10-year restraining orders against the victim and her grandmother to protect them.

In July last year, police received a report from the victim about the messages, and Higton was issued bail conditions not to contact her.

But the threatening messages continued until Higton was charged and remanded into custody in October.

Inspector Kevin Smith said: “This was a disturbing campaign of abuse and harassment by Higton towards the victim and her family.

“All forms of harassment can cause considerable distress, instilling a sense of insecurity to victims and removing their feelings of safety.

“All victims who come forward to report such cases are incredibly brave.

“We are pleased that Higton was held accountable for his actions, and I hope this case serves as a reminder that harassment and violence will not be tolerated.”
