North Wales Police marked its 50-year milestone by welcoming visitors to its headquarters for the force’s Open Day at the weekend.
Almost 4,000 visitors attended, which included displays by the Force’s Firearms Unit and police dogs and a public order display involving fire.
Last held in 2017, the free-to-attend Open Day remains a hugely popular occasion with people of all ages.
Held at Police Headquarters on Saturday 14th of September, the sun shone on an action-packed day which commemorated the force’s 50th anniversary. Visitors had the chance to meet with officers and staff from a variety of teams and departments to learn more about policing in North Wales.
A full schedule of events and displays ran throughout the day, including live demonstrations by the Joint Firearms and Dog Unit, live Public Order simulations and a visit from the NPAS helicopter.
Alongside the many displays and stands, food outlets and local charities, there were talks covering topics such as child exploitations and an opportunity to learn more about answering 999 calls and how safer driving can save lives.
There were also several stands and displays offering crime prevention advice as well as stands from our partners including Mountain Rescue, Coastguard, RNLI and Mental Health Bikes.
Historic police cars were on show and the Police Car UK exhibition trailer gave people the opportunity to learn more about police vehicles and how they have changed over the years.
Guests could also drop by the pop-up force museum, which exhibited the significant changes that have taken place since North Wales Police was established in 1974. The exhibition included historic police equipment, old uniform, photographs and press cuttings from the force’s past.
Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman was delighted with the day. She said: “I’m delighted to say that the Open Day was a fantastic event.
“With so many people in attendance, it gave our officers and staff the ideal opportunity to engage with the communities who we are proud to serve.
“As we celebrate our 50th anniversary as a force, the day also provided the public with a real insight into the diverse skills and specialisms that exist within North Wales Police and our partner agencies.
"I'd like to thank everyone involved in the organisation and delivery of the Open Day and praise their hard work in making it a safe and memorable occasion for those who attended."
