Matchday Policing for Wrexham AFC v Tranmere Rovers

Increased patrols will be in effect across Wrexham city this weekend as part of matchday policing arrangements.

The League Two fixture between Wrexham and Tranmere Rovers will be played at 3pm on Saturday, 16 March.

A sell-out crowd has been confirmed at the STōK Cae Ras stadium and around 12,500 fans are expected to attend.

Police resourcing has been escalated to ensure public safety, with many supporters likely to attend the city’s bars and pubs before and after the game.

Chief Inspector Jon Aspinall said: “Supporter and community safety is our primary concern on any matchday, particularly when capacity crowds are in attendance.

“Attending matches in Wrexham should be an enjoyable occasion for all, particularly when the club is on such a positive trajectory both on and off the field.

“As we enter the final few weeks of the league season, I would urge Wrexham supporters to be a credit to their club on Saturday and in their final remaining fixtures.”

A total of 20 Football Banning Orders have been issued, or are currently being dealt with, in relation to Wrexham fans involved in matchday disorder this season.

CI Aspinall believes that the stringent enforcement of FBOs should act as a strong deterrent to anyone intent on causing disorder.

He added: “North Wales Police and Wrexham Football Club are aligned in our views on fan behaviour at football games and will take robust action against any kind of disorder. We will continue to work with the club to enforce more orders if necessary.

“We know that the great majority of fans behave responsibly and are a credit to the city and to the club.

“As a force, we will continue to work closely with the club, its supporters, and the wider community to ensure that matchdays in Wrexham are safe and enjoyable for all.

“I’d like to thank the wider population of Wrexham for their patience on Saturday. Please be assured that we will do all we can to minimise disruption to the city centre during the day.”
