A community event for boatyard owners was held at Plas Menai in Caernarfon on Thursday March 7th to following an increase in boat yards being targeted for theft at the end of last year.
Officers from the Crime Prevention team, along with security solutions companies Recipero and DeterTech, held inputs about crime prevention advice, site security and the use of smart water to mark valuable items.
A spate of thefts from boat yards were reported in September, November and December 2023, often with outboard motors being targeted. As spring approaches, officers are re-issuing advice in an aim to prevent further crimes.
Sergeant Claire Parry, of the North Wales Police Prevent Team, said: “We are working with business owners and residents to increase the security of boat yards and prevent theft.
“I would encourage all boat and boatyard owners to sign up to our community alert system where we have set up a new group to share advice and raise awareness if we receive any reports of crimes affecting boat owners.”
Boatyard and boat owners can sign up to alerts via the North Wales Community Alert website.
