The North Wales Police Women’s Football Team won a charity football match this week.
Comprised of off-duty officers on Wednesday 21st June at Ysgol y Grango in Rhosllanerchrugog, NWP Ladies FC faced North Wales Fire & Rescue Service Ladies FC, winning 6-5.
The game was a nail-biter with a very quick one-nil for NWP in the first 30 seconds scored by Dani to NW Fire scoring 3 goals. Lots of shots on target for NW Fire which ended up in the safe hands of Ali – #15 from NW Fire then came out of goal and appeared to have amazing footwork making NWP’s job even harder!
Following a 2 further goals from Em in NWP, NW Fire fought back scoring 2 goals. The winner was scored by Steph which was a scorcher!! It was NW Fire’s first game – which took everybody by surprise and could have very easily tipped the other way – NW Fire were a great bunch of girls and wonderful to play against.
NWP Goal Scorers:
Dani – 3 hat-trick
Em – 2 goals
Steph – 1 goal
A big thank you to Wrexham Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant Rhodri Ifans who refereed the game and PC Vinny Jones from the Police Federation who came down to support.
The match was a charity event to raise money for the pupils of Ysgol y Grango in Rhosllanerchrugog to help them set up their own first girl’s football team. With a target of £500, the match has already raised an amazing £330 towards the cause.
The team will still be accepting donations into next week. You can help them reach their target here - Fundraiser by Sophie Ho : Ysgol Y Grango Girl's Football Team (gofundme.com)
