North Wales Police has joined a national campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep people across the region safe.
Running from July 3 to 9, ASB Awareness Week 2023 aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlight the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it.
Organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation, the week features a series of events all across the UK involving Councils, Police Forces, Housing Associations, charities, community groups and sports clubs.
This week, there will be a variety of awareness posts shares across all of our social media channels to raise awareness on where to report ASB and what to do if they become a victim.
Additional patrols across hotspot areas of concern will be undertaken, including the use of Police Drones, and our School Community Police Officers will also be speaking to pupils in primary and secondary schools across the region to help raise awareness.
Recent YouGov research commissioned by Resolve found that almost 1 in 5 people have had to consider moving home because of the impact ASB was having on them; 1 in 10 have actually moved. Despite this, over half of those surveyed who were either a victim or witness of ASB did not report the ASB.
North Wales Police is urging members of the public not to suffer in silence if they experience ASB. Incidents can be reported to the anti-social behaviour team at the local Council, or to the Police if people feel that they are at immediate risk or in danger.
Chief Inspector Siobhan Edwards of North Wales Police said: “We are pleased to support the national campaign again this year. This week we will be building on the work that we undertake on a day-to-day basis within our communities to address the ASB.
“We will continue to work with local partners with a collective effort to crack down on the issue which blights our communities and often leaves victims feeling helpless and desperate. We will also be highlighting the options available to those who have been or are being affected by ASB.
“Our communities are a vital resource in helping us to identify and deal with ASB, so I would encourage anyone who is experiencing it to please report it. By reporting an incident or any concerns, you are helping to make your community a better place for everyone.”
Rebecca Bryant OBE, Chief Executive of Resolve added: “ASB is not low-level. It can have a devastating and long-lasting impact on the lives of victims and communities and can be a precursor to more serious crime.
“It is important that the challenge of ASB continues to be given the priority it needs so that people everywhere feel safe in their homes and communities.
“We are delighted that North Wales Police is supporting this hugely important campaign. It is vital to develop partnership approaches across communities to deal with the growing challenges around ASB.”
