Wrexham Town Police Station FC return to action this weekend, playing their third fixture of an ongoing community engagement initiative.
Hosted once again by the FAW at Colliers Park, the officers will face a side from the Yellow and Blue community hub within the town on Saturday morning.
This fixture follows friendly matches against Bellevue FC and Wrexham Inclusion; sides whose ethos promotes equality and diversity.
The police team was formed in January of this year with the aim of forging stronger links between officers and the Wrexham community
Reflecting on the progress made by the initiative, Sgt David Smith said: “I’m delighted with how things have gone so far this year.
“I feel like the clubs who we’ve played represent the best of Wrexham – with their inclusivity and diversity policies.
“Their teams are made up of players from many different backgrounds, some of whom have had to overcome tough circumstances in their lives.
“From an officers’ point of view, we feel like these fixtures are going from strength to strength.
“We’ve been able to show a human side to the force and break down some of the barriers that might exist between ourselves and the wider community.
“It feels like lasting friendships have been made as a result of these games, which is a real positive.
“We know that the Yellow and Blue hub is a true asset to Wrexham. They provide support to people with mental health and recovery issues as well as members of the homeless community.
“This is a great opportunity for us to play against their staff who make such a difference within the town, as well as those who’ve benefited from their services.”
The broadcasting team from Calon FM will be in attendance to assume commentating duties for the 10am kick-off.
Sgt Smith hopes that the continued media coverage will encourage more teams to arrange fixtures with the officers in future.
He added: “We’re so grateful to the FAW and the team at Colliers Park for allowing us the use of their amazing facilities again.
“We have to mention the streaming broadcaster ORB and the Calon FM team who’ve provided a lot of media exposure since we’ve started playing these fixtures.
“They’ve helped us reach a wider audience and promote our aim of building stronger community links within Wrexham and improving cohesion with the people we serve.
“We’d love to get more fixtures in the diary in the months ahead, so please get in touch if your team are interested in arranging a friendly match.”
