Two men involved in large-scale drug supply in north Wales have been sentenced to a combined 14 years and three months in prison.
George Hewitt and James Robert McCue, both of Queensway in Wrexham, had previously pleaded guilty of conspiracy to supply Class A Drugs.
This followed an intensive North Wales Police investigation into an organised crime group suspected of supplying drugs in the Wrexham area.
At their sentencing in Caernarfon Crown Court today (25 March), Hewitt was imprisoned for eight years and three months, while McCue received a six-year sentence.
The conspiracy period that was evidenced in court ran from 10 February, 2021 until 1 July, 2021.
Officers executed several warrants during the investigation, resulting in the seizure of approximately £440,000 worth of Class A drugs and approximately £50,000 in cash.
Hewitt, 22, had initially acted as a street-level dealer for the group and was stopped by police in February 2021.
He was found in possession of drugs and a mobile phone, which was seized and found to contain evidence of drug supply.
Whilst under investigation, Hewitt had progressed through the ranks of the OCG to a position where he would arrange deals and buy multiple kilograms of heroin and cocaine for the group to sell.
McCue, 21, acted as a courier and was trusted to travel to Liverpool to collect substantial quantities of drugs for the group to sell.
Reflecting on the sentences imposed, Detective Inspector Mark Hughes said: “The sentences today send a clear message that we will not tolerate drug dealing in our communities.
“We are committed to staying one step ahead of these criminals and we will relentlessly pursue anyone who breaks the law and exploits vulnerable people for their own gain.
“This result is not only testament to the hard work and dedication of the officers involved, but also to the support we receive from the public who assist greatly in tackling this crime that has such a detrimental effect on people’s lives.
“This successful operation required extensive investigation work by our officers and today’s sentences should serve as a warning of the consequences to anyone who is involved in such crime.
“We will continue to strive to make North Wales the safest place to live in the UK.”
