Today (March 8th) is International Women’s Day and it is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call for action to accelerate gender balance globally.
The theme for this year’s International Women's Day 2022 is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn't enough. Action is needed to level the playing field.
North Wales Police has made commitments as a part of the HeForShe movement to address gender imbalances at senior levels and to continue to work to combat domestic and sexual abuse. HeForShe seeks to engage men and people of all genders to join women to work together to achieve true gender equality.
The third annual #HeForShe report shows how police forces are working towards gender equality in policing. You can read the report here - HeForShe | North Wales Police
Chief Constable Carl Foulkes said: “At North Wales Police we celebrate the strength of diversity. The achievements of many women and how far we have come over the years.
“International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to reflect on the successes of women within policing and wider across the public and private sector. It's also a great opportunity to reflect on the challenges that are still faced by women, both within the workplace and in our society.
“And as we've seen across the UK over the last 12 months, policing specifically has come under real spotlight on what are we doing to protect women more widely and what are we doing to support women in the workplace.
“We've seen fantastic results with progression and recruitment around women over the last five years. And I want to keep that up as we go forward, because a balanced, equitable workplace is a better workplace, a nicer workplace, and a kinder workplace for all.”
